Underpads, Liners & Pads
Underpads protect the things that can't be changed at 2 a.m.: beds, chairs, wheelchairs and furniture. The workhorse is the 30×36 inch pad — big enough to protect a mattress center, cheap enough to use daily. By the case (usually 100) Prevail Total Care pads work out to about $0.59 each; a bag of 25 costs a little more per pad but lets you test quality or cover a travel week. Incontinence liners — thinner, often winged — go inside briefs to extend their life between full changes; they're an add-on for lighter flow, not a substitute for properly absorbent briefs.
Placement matters more than people expect: pad goes under the hips with the plastic side down, pushed under the lower back where the flow actually lands. Pads are single-use — the absorbent core compresses and the surface is used, so a re-set pad no longer performs as designed. For facilities, pad consumption tracks resident acuity; a light-flow day program uses a fraction of what a memory-care floor does, so don't buy to nursing-home rates by default.
